A huge first quarter put Pennsbury in command for this one early

Pennsbury 68, Harry S. Truman 49

A huge first quarter put the Falcons in command for this one early, but on Senior Night, the team’s fast offensive start wasn’t what made this Senior Night special according to Pennsbury coach Bill Coleman.

“First, I want to thank (Truman coach Tyrone Lewis) for letting me get Xavier Barron in to start the game,” Coleman said. “X had a bad knee injury in preseason and getting him the start and a layup at the beginning of the game made our Senior Night even more special for our guys.”

The game was also important for Pennsbury in that it was a “must win” situation as the team continues its pursuit of a spot in the District One Class 6A Tournament. The Falcons went into Tuesday in the No. 27 spot in a tournament field that eventually will include 24 teams.

“We have been fighting for our playoff life for about five games now and just need to finish strong,” Coleman said. “We shot the ball really well and were able to get contributions from everyone who went in.

“I’m happy for our seniors, they were able to defend the Nest to get a win at home for their Senior Night.”

Pennsbury scored 29 points in the first quarter and by halftime had a commanding 43-20 lead.

Collin Connor led all scorers with 15 points, while Shane Simmons added 12 and Kyrie Miller nine. In all, 11 different players scored and as a team, the Falcons shot 42 percent (11-for-26) from 3-point range.

Pennsbury (10-11, 6-5 SOL) likely needs to win its regular-season finale Thursday, at rival Neshaminy, to secure a spot in districts.

Truman (4-16, 2-9 SOL), which was led by TJ Rogers’ nine points, will close its season out Thursday night at home against William Tennent.
