SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 49, HATBORO-HORSHAM 32
Gabe Harris scored nine of his game-high 16 points in the first quarter, and the Spartans – who led 18-8 – were off and running. By halftime, they led 27-12. Harris had 11 points.
“We were able to play a great first half led by Gabe and Jay (Joseph),” Springfield coach Chris Cole said. “They both were aggressive and looked to score.
“We played great defense and were able to locate their shooters. Our team is young and not used to playing with a lead. We gave up three 3-pointers (in the third quarter) which allowed Hatboro-Horsham to stay in the game.”
The Hatters outscored the Spartans 11-4 in the third quarter, making it a 31-25 game, but the Spartans closed it out with an 18-point fourth quarter to seal the Hatters’ fate. Joseph had six points to lead the Spartans, who connected on 6-of-9 at the foul line in the quarter.
“During the fourth quarter, we stayed aggressive and attacked the basket and drew some fouls, which allowed us to increase our lead,” Cole said. “Our four promising sophomores were able to execute plays during the fourth quarter and gained some good varsity minutes.”
In addition to Harris, Joseph added 10 points, Andrew Kennedy had eight points and Ethan Hamilton finished with six.
Noah Schlosser’s nine-points on three 3-pointers led the Hatters. Jack Marvin added six points.
Springfield Township (6-13, 2-9 SOL) will host Upper Moreland on Friday, and Hatboro-Horsham (1-8, 0-12) will host Cheltenham on Friday.
