SOUDERTON 61, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 46

Jack Towsen and Jason Price combined for 37 points to lead the visiting Indians to the important conference win. Towsen led all scorers with 19 points.

“Jack Towsen has stepped up ever since everybody’s gone down,” said Souderton coach Tim Brown, whose team has been plagued by injuries. “I told him after the game he’s making a case for MVP of this team. He’s been unbelievable in all facets of the game.

“He was the leading scorer tonight, but he’s been our best rebounder. As far as roles considered and taking everything in stride, he’s been in a couple of different roles this season. He started at the beginning of the season, and now he’s coming off the bench. Whatever is best for the team and whatever we think is best for him – he’s completely bought into. Just the intensity he plays with every game is unmatched, and I think the guys are going off of him and following him. He’s been fun to watch and definitely led us the last couple of weeks.”

The Indians, who led 13-8 after one quarter, seized control of the game with a 20-4 second quarter burst to go into halftime with a 33-12 lead. They took a commanding 46-20 lead into the fourth quarter when the Patriots scored 26 of their points.

“These guys are just playing with love for each other, sharing the basketball, being patient on offense and ultimately completely buying into the defensive end of the floor,” Brown said. “We’re focused on being the best defensive team in the league, and they’ve bought into that. That’s where they want to prove themselves – on the defensive end.

“We create our offense from our defense. When we get big stops, typically good things happen on the other end. We’re judging every game off defense and rebounding. The points – if they happen great, but we’re not judging made or missed shots.

“After a couple of poor box outs in the beginning of the first quarter – halfway through the first quarter through basically halfway through the fourth quarter, I thought we were unbelievable defensive rebounding. We did a really good job of finding a man every single time and boxing out and limiting them to one shot and getting going right from there. Those two things they’re taking great pride in, and it’s fun to watch.”

Senior Matt Uhrich was the third player in double figures for the Indians with 12 points.

“He’s new to our team this year,” Brown said. “He’s another guy that’s just accepted everything we’ve given him. He had games where he didn’t even come off the bench, but now he’s starting for us and playing great minutes.

“He has bought in, he doesn’t care who’s getting credit. He’s doing whatever it takes to win. I’m proud of him. He’s been fun to watch.”

Brian Reiner added seven points for the Indians.

The Patriots were led by the eight-point efforts of Tyler Young and Shane Kennedy. Joe Jackman was held to six points.

“Evan Kutzler did a great job – (Jackman) is averaging 20 points a game for those guys,” Brown said. “We challenged Ev to have his best defensive game of the year, and he definitely did that.”

Souderton (12-7, 6-4 SOL) will travel to Pennridge on Friday, and Central Bucks East (12-8, 6-4) will be on the road at Quakertown Friday.
