COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 15, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 (4 innings)
The Golden Hawks erupted for 10 runs in the second inning to seize control of the game on their way to the no-doubt-about-it win in Tuesday’s season opener.
The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead when Joey Purcell hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the first. They put the game out of reach with a 10-run second that was highlighted by Purcell’s three-run triple to right, a two-run triple by Ben Haines and an RBI double by Jack O’Neill.
Leading the Golden Hawks’ 12-hit attack was Chris Nowmos, who was a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Purcell was 2-for-2 with a triple, home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. O’Neill was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored out of the leadoff spot. Haines was 1-for-1 with a triple and three RBIs.
Trey Sajeski and Chase Ennis combined for the four-inning shutout. Sajeski allowed three hits while striking out five and walking one in two innings. Ennis allowed two hits and struck out a pair in two innings.
