Upper Moreland 50, New Hope-Solebury 44
Matt Tiernan led the way with 16 points, as Upper Moreland was able to pull away in the second half to post the six-point Freedom Division win over newcomer New Hope-Solebury.
“It was back and forth,” said Golden Bears coach Dan Heiland. “We started off strong – we got out to a 8-0 start – but New Hope went on a run of their own and held us to three points in the second quarter. Both teams went on runs.”
Up 20-19 at halftime, a 15-3 third quarter put UM in command.
“We did a really good job running the offense and making sure we got the shots that we wanted,” Heiland said. “They did a good job with drives and kicks. I’m proud that we had 14 assists on 17 field goals tonight.
“That’s what you want to see. We still have a lot of work to do, but I’m happy with it.”
Jahire Johnson had nine points for UM while Byron Hopkins and Jake Tiernan had eight points each. The Golden Bears (2-2, 2-1 SOL) play at Lower Moreland on Friday.
New Hope was led by Alex Walinski’s 21 points, while Bryan Dougherty added eight. The Lions (0-6, 0-3 SOL) will look for their first win Friday when they host Springfield.
