Tied After One Quarter, Plymouth Whitemarsh Turned Up The Defensive Intensity

Plymouth Whitemarsh 64, Wissahickon 42

Tied 8-8 after one quarter, Plymouth Whitemarsh turned up the defensive intensity and ended up pulling away from the Trojans to remain unbeaten at 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the Liberty Division. The Colonials took a 26-18 lead into halftime and blew the game wide open with a 20-8 third quarter.

“We really focused the past two days on raising our defensive precision while maintaining energy,” said Colonials coach Jim Donofrio. “We found a moment in the middle of the second quarter through the third where we did just that, and it was the catalyst to getting us on a run.

“And it also helped that we woke back up and made a number of 3s again at a high rate.”

Wissahickon struggled to get going offensively in the first half, with just three field goals.

Freshman Jaden Colzie led PW with 19 points, seven in the pivotal third quarter, while Zuri Jerman – who had eight in the third quarter – and Marshall Baker had 11 points each. Qudire Bennett add nine points.

Matt Compas led Wissahickon with 15 points, while Josh Twersky added eight.

PW plays at Quakertown on Friday. Wissahickon (5-3, 2-2 SOL) looks to bounce back Thursday with a nonleague home game against Souderton.
