Slow Down Drew Stover

Hatboro-Horsham 48, Upper Dublin 42

Hatboro-Horsham tried to do what every opponent has tried to do against Upper Dublin this season. Slow down Drew Stover.

The UD big man did score 25 points, but the Hatters made him work for it and pulled out a huge 48-42 Liberty Division win on Tuesday.

“It was a great win for us,” said first-year H-H coach Rick Fedele. “We watched film on Upper Dublin, a couple games, and we focused on Stover. He was the key. We wanted to get out there and physically bang him as much as we could. We ran three guys on him and they did a tremendous job making him earn everything.”

That defensive credit goes to Zehier Cheeze, Dan Simpson and Josh Spruill.

“We held (Stover) to one bucket in the second quarter,” Fedele said. “We were able to get the lead. That was a big part of it, the second quarter.

“But they were able to take the lead late, but everything they threw at us, we handled. We fought the whole time.”

The Hatters, who trailed 13-6 after one quarter, used a 16-6 second quarter to go into halftime with a 22-19 advantage.

Sophomore Noah Schlosser scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Hatters, while Eric Butler added 12 and sophomore Kyle Dittus with nine points.

It was the kind of win that H-H was looking for, especially coming off a loss to first-place Plymouth Whitemarsh.

“Upper Dublin is a quality team,” Fedele said. “I’ve only been with the kids a total of 18 days. We had some open gyms, but then we started the season late, and I was hired late in the fall.

“The focus has been on defense. We’re trying to do it defensively, with intensity and aggression, and let the offense come.”

The Hatters (2-1, 2-1 SOL) host Abington on Thursday. UD (5-2, 2-2 SOL) hosts Abington on Friday.
