Neshaminy Remained Unbeaten In Patriot Division Play

Neshaminy 51, Bensalem 48

Mike Murray scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half, as Neshaminy remained unbeaten in Patriot Division play with a close win over Bensalem on Tuesday.

“It was a very interesting game,” said Neshaminy coach Mark Tingle. “Our big man, Matt Murray, picked up two quick fouls in the first two minutes of the game and didn’t play the rest of the half. He ended up having 14 in the second quarter. We started the second half down two and he scored 10 in the third quarter himself.”

Neshaminy may have taken control of the game with a 20-9 third quarter, but Bensalem didn’t exactly go away.

“It was a back-and-forth battle,” Tingle said. “They were up most of the first half, we took the lead in the third and were up most of the second half. We made a bunch on the (free throw) line and we missed a bunch too and gave them a chance to tie at the end. It was a hard-fought game.”

Sean Curley had 13 for Neshaminy, while Matt Drapkin and Tom Mullin added eight points each.

Bensalem senior James Ashford scored 26 points to lead his team.

“He was tough tonight,” Tingle said about Ashford. “He had a lot of second chances off of rebounds and finished a lot in the paint. He’s a tough player.”

Neshaminy (6-0, 5-0 SOL) is back in action Thursday at home against Council Rock South. Bensalem (2-5, 2-2 SOL) plays at Pennsbury on Friday.
