Golden Hawks Picked One Up At Home Tuesday Against Truman

Council Rock South 41, Harry S Truman 35

After losing Monday to William Tennent, Council Rock South needed a bounce-back game and while it may not have been pretty, the Golden Hawks picked one up at home Tuesday against Truman.

“To come right back and play again was important for us,” CR South coach Chris Clark said. “Now, I’m really happy to get them back on the practice floor. We played games Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday. It will be nice to get to practice before playing Thursday.”

CR South was tough defensively in the first half, holding the Tigers to just 11 points and jumping up 24-11 at the half. But in the second half, the Hawks faced tough, pressure defense as the visitors were able to get the game close.

“I thought in the first half, we were able to play pretty good defense,” Clark said. “We played good defense and were able to get out in transition. In the second half, they pressed us with a 1-2-2 and that really bothered us. It got them back in the game. It’s the first time we saw a trapping press like that. We’ll be better for it.”

Joe Purcell and Colin Martin had key 3-pointers for the Hawks late in the fourth to help put the game away.

Purcell finished with a team-high 16 points, while Gavin Holloran added 15.

CR South (4-3, 3-2 SOL) has a big one Thursday at first-place Neshaminy.

Truman was led by Makai Jackson’s 12 points, while Tyriq Montgomery added nine. The Tigers (0-5, 0-5 SOL) host CR North on Friday.
