Abington Uses Second Quarter To Jump In Front

Abington 72, Quakertown 61

After settling for a 17-17 tie with the visiting Panthers after one quarter, Abington used a 17-7 second quarter to jump in front. The Ghosts built that lead to 18 (52-34) in the third quarter on the way to their first win of the season over Quakertown.

The win came on the heels of back-to-back losses to open the season and avoided the program’s worst start since the 2006-07 season. Tuesday, they forced 16 steals on the defensive end, 11 in the first half to break the game wide open.

Rob Bell led Abington with 16 points on 8-for-10 shooting, with four steals on defense. Oreck Frazier added 12 on 6-for-10 shooting, with six rebounds and three steals. Kahjel Morris added eight points off the bench, connecting on 4-of-6 shots from the field. He also had three steals. Karim Boyd and Fhenyx Scutt both contributed six points while Nate Willis and Devin Burns scored the first baskets of their varsity career.

In all, 14 players got on the floor for the Ghosts, and 11 scored at least one point.

Quakertown was led by Ty Wilkin’s 13 points, while Trey Perez had 12 – on four 3-pointers – and Matt Catalano had 11.

Abington (1-2, 1-2 SOL) is back in action Thursday at Hatboro-Horsham.The Panthers (0-7, 0-5 SOL) hosts first-place Plymouth Whitemarsh on Friday.
