Pennridge clinches back-to-back Suburban One Continental Conference championships

Pennridge 65, Central Bucks East 50

Up five at halftime, Pennridge pulled away in the second half to clinch back-to-back Suburban One League Continental Conference championships with the road win on Tuesday.

“Winning the division, I’m really excited for the boys,” said coach Dean Behrens. “I don’t think a lot of people thought we would win division this year. It’s well deserved. It’s an unselfish group. They play hard in games, play hard in practice. I can count on one hand how many poor practices they’ve had.

“Most of the boys were on team last year, but didn’t really get to play in playoffs. They came to practice every day, didn’t complain, helped guys get better last year. Now, it’s their turn. They saw what it takes, and step one is to try to win the division. I’m really pleased for them.”

Christian Guldin hit four 3-pointers and led the Rams with 16 points. Trent Fisher and Anthony Phillips had 12 points each, while Luke Yoder had 10 and Colin Post eight.

“Trent Fisher was a dominant force inside for us, offensively and defensively,” Behrens said. “He had blocked shots, rebounds. I know he had a double-double, and he probably had five or six blocks too.

“Anthony Phillips came off the bench for us and had 10 points. I thought that was huge. We had foul trouble in the second quarter and Colin Post and Luke Yoder were on the bench.

Colin Monahan and Ryan Benscoter came off the bench and gave us great minutes. We extended our lead when they were on the floor. It was a great team effort, really.”

The Rams (16-5, 9-2 SOL) have one game remaining Thursday night at home against North Penn. They are currently in the No. 8 position in the District One Class 6A power rankings.

Any thoughts of a mini-shooting slump that resulted in a league losses two weeks ago are long forgotten.

“I told the boys this last week, ‘One good shooting game and we’re back,’” Behrens said. “We played Souderton Friday and it wasn’t a great game. We shot poorly, they shot poorly. We played Haverford on Saturday, and it just clicked for us. That confidence offensively was back. You add that to defensive prowess and I think we’re a pretty good team.”

CB East (13-9, 7-5 SOL) was led by Tyler Young with 16 points and Jason Markowitz with 13. The Patriots hit 10 3-pointers as a team. It was the final game of the regular season for the Patriots, who are currently the No. 12 team in District One.
